Glenunga International High School (GIHS)'s Enrolment

GIHS is a school with a Capacity Management Plan (CMP). The CMP is an enrolment criteria established by the Minister under the Education Regulations 2016, and gazetted. The Department for Education (DfE) uses these to ensure the school maintains a safe enrolment level – more information is available on the school website or government gazette via the following link https://gihs.sa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Glenunga-International-High-School-Gazette-CMP-20200910.pdf.  As GIHS is a CMP school we are not able to guarantee placements at this stage for 2022.

Year 6 Transition to High School

With GIHS under a Capacity Management Plan (CMP), the Transition process is only for students who live in South Australia (SA) at the time of the Transition process (ie start of the SA school year prior to enrolling into an SA government secondary school). If you would like to enrol your student into GIHS for their commencement year of High School and your children attend a SA independent school at the time that they are completing Primary School, you will need to arrange to organise a Transition to High School package from the Department for Education (DfE) for possible enrolment into a state high school. This can be done via email at education.startingsecondaryschool@sa.gov.au . If your children will be attending a SA government primary school, when they are in their final year - they will receive their package by Term 2 Week 1 from their primary school. It would be worth contacting your primary school to ask when you will be receiving your transition pack.

From the package received, you will need to complete a “Registration of Interest Form” and return it by end of May of that year to DfE (for independent primary schools, overseas or interstate prospective students), or the primary school. The placement process is conducted by DfE (not us) and will notify us of the successful applicants in August of that year. Placements are given to students who live within the zone of GIHS as at 22 May 2022, in a home that is either owned or rented by the parent/custody guardian of the student only (no other family member or friend of the family), and families can provide proof of residence of at least 18 months rental agreement that ends no sooner than end of December in the first year of student being in Year 7 (ie if own property: purchase agreement/council rates, water rates, gas or electricity invoice and driver’s license; if renting property: rental agreement, bond lodgement form, gas or electricity invoice and driver’s license); and/or have been offered a placement in the school for the IGNITE program. This is why if the student is residing outside the zone you will need to include in the application form the reasons why you would like your child to be considered for enrolment at GIHS. It will be very unlikely that an enrolment offer will be granted for GIHS - but at the very least DfE will see your reasons and if not placed at GIHS it could affect where your child is placed on DfE’s waiting list.

The high school that your child is placed into will notify you of the outcome by sending you a welcome letter and an enrolment pack. Prospective students who requested to be enrolled at GIHS but not offered placement at the school will automatically go onto our waiting list constructed by DfE and then sent to us to manage in the order that the students have been placed. If a placement becomes available at any time we would offer it to the next student on DfE’s waiting list.

For families not living in SA at the time of the Transition process and would like to register their interest for a placement at GIHS, they will need to complete a Registration of Interest for Enrolment form (available upon request) and return to the school along with student’s most recent academic school report as well as a copy of the student’s NAPLAN results (if applicable). Placement for students in this situation will depend on the number of students placed at GIHS by DfE through the Transition process (should any further spaces be available). If a placement is not possible, the student will be placed on a register awaiting an offer and GIHS will contact families if a placement becomes available at any time.

Year 7 to 12 Students

In Zone Process

If you are an in-zone family, we cannot guarantee your request at this stage, you will need to consider another neighbouring school. If unsure of which school to approach, please visit DfE's website or go to the following link: https://www.education.sa...ions/find-other-services and if you go to the bottom of that page it will have a list of all the schools in alphabetical order. Otherwise please contact DfE on +61 8 8226 1000 or the East Region Office of DfE on +61 8 8366 8800.

You are welcome to complete the attached form and return to me (email preferable) along with copies of student's most recent school/academic reports and NAPLAN results (if applicable). Once we receive, your son/daughter will be placed on the GIHS Register of Enrolment Interest In Zone families. Prospective students on this register will be considered if a vacancy becomes available for the 2022/2023 school year (ie valid for 12 months). We will only contact you if a placement becomes available.

Out of Zone Process

If you reside outside the zone of GIHS and are interested to being placed on the GIHS Register of Enrolment Interest Out Zone families, you are welcome to complete the attached form and return to the school (email preferable) along with copies of student's most recent school/academic reports and NAPLAN results (if applicable). We will only contact you if a placement becomes available.

IGNITE Entrance Years 7 to 10

If the prospective student is currently in Year 6, 7, 8 or 9 and interested in the IGNITE program and did not sit for the ACER test in February when student was in Year 6, you will need to provide us with a report from a psychologist with evidence of giftedness, and return to the school the completed Registration of Interest form (attached) along with student’s most recent academic achievements including NAPLAN results (if applicable). The IGNITE Team will then consider the application. Outcome of an offer will depend on spaces available in the program and subjects that the student is keen on undertaking.

IB Diploma Entrance Year 11 and 12

If the student is interested in the IB Diploma, there is a possibility to offer placements to students when approaching Year 10 Semester 2, or at start of the school year in Year 11. When the student is in Year 10 towards the end of Semester 1 (May) or Semester 2 (October), please complete the attached form and return to the school, along with student’s most recent academic achievements including NAPLAN results (if applicable).

The IB Team will then consider the application and determine if the IB Diploma Program is applicable for the student to undertake. If so, an informal interview conversation between the IB Coordinator, parent/caregiver and the prospective student will be arranged. Approval will depend on the outcome from interview and spaces available in the requested subjects. As specified on GIHS' website and gazetted, GIHS can take up to 10 new students into the IB Diploma who are not already enrolled at GIHS).

Please visit the GIHS website www.gihs.sa.edu.au for the latest information about the school including the zoning map, curriculum offerings including IGNITE and IB programs, student life activities and cost of fees.
