The minimum entry scores for entry to NSW selective high schools, success rates and stats

As you can see, for many schools, especially the top selective schools, the minimum entry scores have increased, which could be attributed to a combination of the changes to the placement test and more competition for places.

In terms of competition, the number of applicants has remained fairly steady since 2017. About 14,500 year 6 students sat the test in March this year, competing for about a third (4256) selective spots.

NSW Department of Education announced an overhaul of the entry test late last year, which will include aligning "the difficulty of the tests to the ability levels of the gifted students sitting them" and reducing the "predictability and coachability" of the tests, began with minor changes to this year's test. These included a focus on a psychometric approach to questions and a better balance of questions across subject areas. The existing exam format was retained, but will be changed next year.

There are 17 fully selective high schools, 26 high schools with selective classes (partially selective), 4 agricultural high schools2 and a virtual selective class provision offering selective placement in Year 7 for entry in 2019. Number of vacancies: 4,256 Number of applicants: 14,501

The number of vacancies was 4,256 and the number of applicants was over 14,501. The success rate is about 30%, double opportunities as the Opportunity Class placement success rate 15%.
