The Minimum Scores for entry to selective high schools in NSW can be viewed as a general reference of selective school ranking. Please see other ranking mechanisms at http://bettereducation.com.au/SchoolRanking.aspx

I have a quick question on how these scores are calculated. Since there are 4 components in the selective test involving:GA,Maths,Englishand Writing, how much are each of the components weighted to make upthe 300score? Is it just an averaged 300/4 weight per test withthe percentage for each test summed up? Also I was wondering how usual school marks contribute to the students result ina selective schooltest? Do school marks matter and how much do they weigh?

The Year 4 and Year 5 school marks (including English and mathematics) weigh a lot in the selective high school placement profile score. See detailed information on how the profile score is calculated here.

In 2010, The number of selective high school vacancies was 4156 and the number of applicants was 13454. Notes:
Quote:
These scores are expressed as whole numbers. The exact entry score of the last person placed at each school is normally calculated to a number of decimal places. If the minimum entry score is 224.39 there will be students below that score (for example 224.19) who will be unsuccessful.

I have a question on how the selective test scores are calculated: If the same mean of 60 and standard deviation of 12 is used to scale the raw marks, then the distribution of the final scores across the total population should be very similar from year to year. Then, why the entry marks, say for James Ruse, vary so much from year to year? Cheers.

The number of vacancies and applicants changed little in 2011, see the update: Selective High Schools Entry in Year 7 2012 – minimum scores.
