How to clone an sql server database on the same server

In SQL Server management studio including Express version , there is an import and export wizard. Note that importing /exporting data just does the tables, ie. data, but not the procedures or functions, etc. There is also a Copy Database wizard available in SQL Server management Studio via Tasks > Copy Database on the context menu on the source database. It copies the entire database to another database. However, it is only available in the full version, not express version.
You can still copy the whole database with the express edition - Use 'Restore Database' option accessible by right clicking the "Databases" on the menu tree of the SQL Server Management Studio and provide the database name while providing the source database to restore. Don't create an empty database and restore the backup .bak file on to it. So no need to create a backup file for copying a database.

Related database terms: attach, Detach, Take offline, Bring online...
