2007 HSC and SC Results: The school was placed in the position of 23 in 2007 Top 200 School Rankings (HSC) in NSW.

The English HSC and SC results were once again
highly commendable and I would like to thank the
enthusiasm and hard work of all Year 12 and 10
English teachers.

In Advanced English, 24 students were awarded a
Band 6, or a mark of 90 or above. This was 18.18%
of the cohort, against a state average of 9.18.9%.
Ninety students, 68.18% of the cohort were
awarded a Band 5 in Advanced English. Again this
compared very favourably against a State average
of 37.67% and meant that about 88% of our Year
12 Advanced students gained a Band 5 or 6 in their
compulsory study.

In Standard English, 20.93% achieved a band 5,
(state 3.32%) and 67.44% gained band 4 (state
average 35.19 %.) This is the best result we have
had in Standard English and my thanks to Ms Daw
and Mr. Maguire for their fine efforts.
In the academically demanding Extension 1 course
76% of students achieved marks in the top two
bands. This compares very favorably with the state

In Extension 2 English, students present a major
work for their assessment. This allows students to
pursue their own interests and abilities, choosing
from a broad selection of options. This includes a
series of speeches, a short story of 6000 to 8000
words, a critical response or a film. In 2007,
42.85% of students achieved the highest band,
compared to a state average of 32.13%. Mitchell
Hillier’s Major Work on Speeches about censorship
through the ages earned him inclusion in the Young
Writers Anthology for 2007.
