The minimum scores for 2008 entry to NSW selective high schools

This is also the list of NSW selective high schools including fully selective high schools, high schools with selective classes (partially selective), a virtual selective class provision (Western NSW Region) and agricultural high schools offering selective placement in Year 7.

Partially selective high schools have both selective and community classes.

The virtual selective class provision provides access to the selective option. Students will be enrolled in their home school while participating in English, Mathematics and Science via the virtual selective class provision.

Agricultural selective high schools emphasise the study of agriculture, with the boarding sections giving some priority to isolated students.

Entry to the selective schools is managed centrally by the department's Selective High School and Opportunity Class Placement Unit. Prospective students sit the Selective High Schools Test (typically in March of Year 6) and are allocated places at schools according to their profile score, out of 300, which comprises both exam and school marks. Students may list up to four preferred schools.

  4. Practice is the key to excel in the tests. You may need to buy selective school entry test books for practice. The practice questions provide an ideal opportunity for students and parents to develop familiarity with the style of the papers and gain valuable experience answering real questions. We recommend that students practise practice papers 'under exam conditions' (e.g. timing).
