Welcome to Kilbreda College
Kilbreda College, in the heart of Bayside, Mentone, has been proudly educating young women in the Brigidine Tradition for over 117 years. Our motto, Strength and Kindliness, together with our College values of Compassion, Courage, Hope, Hospitality, Justice and Wonder, underpin every aspect of college life.
Our students will experience an education that is transformative, developing a growing capacity to engage with empathy and respond with love in the lives of one another, and within and beyond our community. We offer a particular focus on outreach to the marginalised and an emphasis on our moral and civic responsibilities as members of society, responding to the changing needs of our world. In addition, our mission is to inspire and empower through a tailored learning environment to cover various learning areas, purpose-built learning spaces, and an extensive co-curricular program with a commitment to STEM and sustainability.
At our College, we recognise that each young woman is unique, bringing different gifts, talents and individual needs with them. We are committed to ensuring that each student is known, challenged and supported spiritually, socially, academically and emotionally. With an emphasis on wellbeing, our tailored programs foster an inclusive, nurturing school culture that encourages a sense of pride, purpose and belonging.
The College provides an innovative curriculum for Years 7 to 10, which acknowledges, celebrates and values the experiences of students as they establish individual identities within community. In Years 11 and 12, students have two pathways to choose from the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). This enables our students to choose the pathway best suited to their learning style and future pathway. A broad range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects are also offered onsite at the college; however, students can also access an extensive range of VCE VET subjects offsite as part of their academic program.
One of the unique programs at the college is the Year 9 BRIDGES program, which aims to develop an understanding of our ever-changing world. BRIDGES engages students in building resilience, independence, dependability and generosity while pursuing excellence and developing self-esteem.
The units are designed to encourage students to observe and analyse the challenges in our society and consider how they might contribute to positive change in their community. Through authentic learning experiences, students are supported to engage in deep learning and develop a personal commitment to justice in accordance with the vision and mission of the college. From 2021, students will also have the opportunity to complete the certified Community Engagement: Collaborating for Change course through the University of Michigan.
Through investigative inquiry and practical experiences, students develop a genuine heart attitude for justice and common good in society. The BRIDGES Program is rigorous and strategically planned, allowing for the development of skills to enable students to become leaders and change agents, using their voice to make a real difference in their community.
