The answer is no for the time being. Currently there are no selective schools in South Australia. However, there is a push to introduce SELECTIVE high schools in South Australia for the state's most academically gifted students.
This is the view of former education minister Rob Lucas.

Quote:
Adelaide Now: Selective schools could restore parent confidence in the public education system, he says, and overcome the dominance of private schools in the Year 12 "perfect scores". "We are wasting the talents of some of our best and brightest in our government school system," he said.

In his personal view, it is time for South Australia to "take the next step" in providing for highly-intelligent students by developing selective high schools.

Students would sit entry tests to get into schools, similar to those in New South Wales that have turned out highly successful Australians such as High Court judge Michael Kirby, and have been more recently introduced in Victoria.

Currently there are selective programs for gifted students entering high school available from some schools in South Australia, for example, Glenunga International High School.

Questions answered:
Q: How to get admission in the best high schools if we are not in the Zone?
A: If you are not in the school zone, you can consider open entry private schools or catholic schools. Your children can apply for academic, music and general excellence scholarships. Preparation and practice is the key. The good news is that the government selective schools will be introduced in SA soon. So the bright students can site tests for the entry.
